Visual and eDNA Survey (Usage Below)
Usage
This survey documents fish species detected at survey sites using two complementary methods: Visual (by using BRUV or ROV), where fish are identified visually from underwater footage, and eDNA sampling, where fish presence is inferred from genetic material collected in water samples.
Browse deployment sites
Pan and zoom the map to explore all survey locations. Markers are color-coded by sampling method and scale in opacity with species or taxa richness. Brighter markers indicate higher diversity.
Open a site record
Click any marker to open its detail panel. A popup will show some metadata: depth, substrate, EBSA or upwelling flags, followed by a ranked species or taxa list, and a badge identifying whether the record came from BRUV or ROV.
Filter by survey type
Use the Sampling layer toggle buttons to show or hide each survey type: Visual (combined BRUV and ROV visual counts) and eDNA (combined BRUV and ROV eDNA taxa).
Overlay MPA boundaries
Toggle Existing MPA to display marine protected area polygons.
Show ecological markers
Enable Upwelling or EBSA under Natural markers to label sites within known upwelling zones or Ecologically or Biologically Significant Areas.
Navigate and orient
Use scroll to zoom. Click and drag to pan. The scale bar (bottom-left) updates as you zoom.
